Last Stop Loved Cupid Ride
Gets New Logo for 2024
|
|
We are less than four months away from the 2024 Last Stop Loved Cupid Ride and we’re excited to share next year’s logo! This super cute graphic was designed by the amazingly talented Aisha Krishnamurthy and we love it!
The Last Stop Loved Cupid Ride is a police-escorted 5-mile bicycle ride through Savannah’s Historic District to raise money and awareness for Georgia Rescue, Rehabilitation, & Relocation (GRRR). GRRR is a 501(c)(3) rescue organization that serves Savannah and the surrounding counties. Their program, Last Stop Loved, finds homes and provides medical care for medically challenged senior dogs who have been abandoned or lost their owners due to death or medical reasons. The name Last Stop Loved represents a final place where these pups can find incredible love and caring as they spend their last days on earth. Money raised for Last Stop Loved will directly benefit GRRR’s efforts to care for these canine babies.
It’s not too early to register and Cupid-themed attire is encouraged! The event will feature a food truck, live music, and on-site raffles to win prizes, including a new bike from Savannah On Wheels. Bike rentals are also available for the duration of the ride. If you can’t join us for the ride but would still like to contribute to the cause, please consider making a donation, it’s a great way to honor a cherished pet or family member.

Kelly Thompson to Feature Art at Savannah On Wheels
|
|
The next time you step into Savannah On Wheels, things may look more creative! We’ll be featuring pieces from local Savannah artist, Kelly Thompson, for our customers to enjoy and to purchase! Kelly always been fascinated with the inner workings of mechanical objects but now finds satisfaction in repurposing old, corroded, broken metal objects (like bike parts!). He takes the gears, springs and wires of a once intricate, functional mechanism and incorporates their forms, patterns and textures into his paintings. And they’re pretty awesome! Come by to check them out in a couple of weeks, and/or visit his website to view his collection!

October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month
|
|
Adopt a Shelter Dog Month is a collaborative initiative borne from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and American Humane and is observed in the month of October. It began in 1981 when American Humane established Adopt A Dog Month in response to the growing number of dogs and puppies entering shelters every year. So many shelters are currently beyond capacity and need to find homes for many canine babies. Here locally, you can see (above) Chatham County Animal Services is offering half-price dog adoption fees all month!
Want to support your local shelter but aren’t in an ideal situation for a furry companion? There are still ways you can help!
- Make a donation! Either monetary or otherwise. Shelters can use donated funds to assist with their operations and caring for so many animals in need. Also, check with your local rescues to see if they’re in need of old towels or blankets, pet food, or other items. Sometimes it can be as easy as collecting your empty toilet paper and paper towel rolls, cardboard egg cartons, and paper bags. These items can be used to help reduce stress and boredom for pups!
- Share your rescue pal story! Do you have a rescue dog or cat whom you adore? Tell people just how great rescue animals are via social media. Tag the shelter from which you adopted your furbaby and give them an update on how much better both of your lives are as a result of their adoption!
- Volunteer! Contact your local animal services, shelter, or rescue to see if they are in need of volunteers (spoiler alert: they are!). It takes a lot of work to run an animal rescue operation and they need volunteers to help with everything from laundry to dog walks, feeding and cleaning, and administrative assistance.
- Foster a pup! Want some companionship but can’t make a super long-term commitment? Foster a pup in your home until they find their forever home. This makes the pup’s life much less stressful and frees up resources for the shelter. Rescues will often foot the bill for food, medicine, and any other supplies that sweet baby might need while in your care. Warning: you may get slightly attached to that little muffin so be prepared!

And speaking of little muffins…check out Snow and Dax! How cute are they? Both under two years old and less than 15 pounds. These pint-sized pooches are as sweet and loving as they are adorable and they’re ready for their foster or forever homes!
These handsome gentlemen come to us from Georgia Rescue, Rehabilitation, & Relocation (GRRR). You’ve already read about the great work they do in the Savannah area so check them out and consider adding one of these babies to your household! They cover all supplies and medical expenses for fosters with 24/7 support for foster parents so it’s a no brainer!
