February 2024 Bicycle Bulletin

Happy Leap Day and welcome to February’s pedal-powered adventure! 🚲 This month has become a special one for us every year. Not only do we celebrate the anniversary of our ownership of Savannah On Wheels on February 14th (yes, Valentine’s Day!), we also host the Last Stop Loved Cupid Ride benefitting Georgia Rescue, Rehabilitation, & Relocation (GRRR). Cheers to our fourth anniversary owning Savannah On Wheels and our third annual Cupid Ride! Thank you to each and every one of you for being a part of the experience!

Pawsitively Thankful: Savannah Cupid Ride

With much gratitude, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to each of you for making the Savannah Cupid Ride a resounding success! Your support helped us raise over $4,000 to provide love and care for medically challenged senior dogs through GRRR’s Last Stop Loved program. Together, we’ve made a significant impact on the lives of senior dogs and our communities. Thank you for your compassion and commitment to making a difference.

Please mark your calendars and save the date for Feb 8, 2025! Follow @savannahcupidride on Instagram for updates!

It’s that time of year again to recognize Savannah’s best businesses and we are humbly seeking your support! Connect Savannah is a local arts, entertainment, and news magazine which yearly solicits nominations and votes to honor those recognized. We’ve been named as a finalist for Best Bicycle Shop and we would appreciate your votes!

  1. Visit the Connect Savannah Best of 2024 page, then scroll down to the Categories section.
  2. Click on the Shopping category, then select Best Bicycle Shop and cast your vote for Savannah On Wheels.
  3. You can vote once a day and you will only be asked to enter your email address on your first entry.

The voting is open until March 6th! Thank you!

Raise your hand if your first bike had a banana seat! Thankfully seats (aka saddles) have come a long way since then. One of the things we hear most often when customers test ride a bike is that they like the bike but the seat is uncomfortable. Many people are surprised to learn that seats are easily, and usually fairly inexpensively, replaceable. Seats today are available in a variety of widths, depths, and shapes. Just like mattresses, you have options of firm, soft, gel, cushion, and memory foam. There are noseless saddles, as well as saddles with perineal cutouts or indentations. Maybe you love your seat but it’s a little worse for the wear? Consider a seat cover. It fits over your existing seat and attaches via drawstring for a little extra comfort. It’s also important to make sure you’re properly fitted on your bike. If your form is off, it can cause your ride to be uncomfortable. Come by Savannah On Wheels any time for a fit assessment and/or to check out our selection of seats and seat covers. You can bet your bottom dollar you’ll be glad you did!

If you haven’t been to Savannah On Wheels in a while, you probably haven’t seen our diverse selection of used bikes for sale. If you’re ready to hit the road in the warmer weather but your wheels could use an upgrade, come on by. We have previously loved bikes for most budgets and all have been inspected and tuned up by our expert bike technicians. A used bike is a great way to get higher quality products for less. And did you know that we also buy used bikes and take trade ins? If you’ve got a set of wheels collecting dust in your garage, and/or you’re in the market for a new ride, bring by your old bike(s) and we’ll make you an offer if we’re able to take it off your hands.

This year’s St. Patrick’s Day parade in Savannah will be held on Saturday, March 16th. Given the prevalence of street closings and likelihood of inebriated encounters, we’ll be closed that day. But fear not, we’ll be open our regular hours on Sunday, March 17th (9:30am-5:30pm) for rentals, tours, sales, and service! Erin go bragh!

Chatham County Animal Services does such a great job here in Savannah of working with local rescues and the community to find homes for pets in need and they are waiving all adoption fees every Sunday in March! They are currently also in need of donations, including: tough chew toys for dogs and durable toys for play yards, simple leads, towels, blankets, and peanut butter. If you can’t make it to CCAS but have items to donate, please feel free to drop them at Savannah On Wheels and we’d be happy to deliver them for you! Pictured here is Raya who was adopted from CCAS. We thought her to be the perfect February featured rescue given her heart-like marking. 💕
